From 1351, The Duke of Lancaster gained judicial powers over the whole of Lancashire separate to the rest of England.
This was rationalised during Victorian times but was essentially run separately until fairly recent times.
All of the known stamps (there are 19 and run to £5 in face value) are scarce and there are many variations (see Barefoot)
